The service

Made to the step, not made to fit afterwards.

Steps expose every line. The tread, riser, edge and return all need to meet cleanly, with a finish that remains consistent across the complete run.

We fabricate bespoke porcelain and natural stone steps to suit the actual setting out of your project. Individual pieces can be cut to size, bullnosed, mitred and bonded before being made ready to install.

Work can be completed at our workshop in Acton Bridge, Cheshire, or at your site. For on-site projects, we can template the steps, cut and profile each piece, and check the final fit against the structure itself.

From a single garden step to a complete run of treads and risers, every visible edge is finished by hand.

Why bespoke?

The structure sets the dimensions.

Standard step pieces only work when the setting out matches the product.

Bespoke fabrication allows each tread, riser, corner and return to be produced for the actual structure. This is particularly important when the steps change in width, meet surrounding paving, turn a corner or need to follow an existing build.

We work from drawings, supplied dimensions or templates taken directly from the project.

Step capabilities

Cut, profiled and ready to install.

Our workshop has four wetsaws, an in-house bullnose machine and hand-held equipment for cuts and details the larger machinery cannot reach.

Bullnosed steps

A full bullnose creates a smooth, rounded leading edge across the front of the step. We can produce full bullnose profiles up to 50mm thickness, with thicker materials available by special order.

Each edge is finished by hand to create a consistent profile across the complete step run.

/ 02

Mitred porcelain steps

A mitred edge allows the tread to meet a bonded downstand or riser, creating the appearance of a deeper, more substantial step.

We fabricate mitred downstands up to 150mm, including mitred and bonded step pieces, returns and corners.

/ 03

Step treads and risers

Treads and risers can be cut to the width and depth required for the project, including individual pieces for steps that change in size or direction.

Where the design calls for a bonded tread and riser, the pieces are cut, mitred, aligned and checked before leaving the workshop.

/ 04

Corners and returns

External corners, side returns and changes in direction are fabricated to keep the profile and joint line consistent around the step.

Templates can be produced from the completed structure where supplied dimensions alone are not enough.

Edge options

Bullnose. Mitre. Chamfer.

The right edge depends on the material, the setting out and the finish required across the wider project.

Full bullnose

A fully rounded leading edge, available up to 50mm thickness and finished by hand.

Mitred downstand

A tread and downstand cut at an angle, bonded together and aligned to create a deeper step edge. Downstands can be fabricated up to 150mm.

Aris or chamfer

A clean, eased or angled edge for projects that need a simpler, more engineered profile.

If you are unsure which finish will work best, send us photographs or drawings of the steps and surrounding paving. We will recommend the most practical option.

The process

Template. Cut. Profile. Finish.

Each step is worked through as part of the complete run, not treated as an isolated piece.

01

Template

We work from supplied dimensions, drawings or templates taken directly from the finished structure.

02

Cut

Each tread, riser, corner and return is cut to the required size using the workshop wetsaws or specialist equipment brought to your site.

03

Profile

Leading edges are bullnosed, chamfered or mitred to suit the agreed specification.

04

Finish

Mitred pieces are bonded and checked, exposed edges are finished by hand and the completed pieces are prepared for installation.

Porcelain or natural stone

One setting out, different materials.

We fabricate steps in both porcelain and natural stone, across a range of thicknesses and finishes.

Porcelain steps

Porcelain paving can be cut and fabricated into bullnosed step treads, mitred steps, risers, corners and bonded downstands.

Using the same porcelain as the surrounding paving allows the steps to continue the colour and surface finish used across the wider project.

Natural stone steps

Natural stone can be cut, profiled and finished to suit the project, including bullnosed treads, step copings, risers and bespoke return pieces.

The material, thickness and intended profile should be confirmed before fabrication begins. Send us the product details or photographs and we will advise on the most suitable approach.

Workshop or on-site?

The right route for the job.

Many step pieces can be fabricated at our workshop in Acton Bridge and delivered or collected ready to install.

Workshop fabrication is usually suitable when accurate dimensions or reliable templates can be supplied and the finished pieces can be transported safely.

On-site fabrication can be the better option when:

  • The steps have already been constructed
  • Individual treads vary in size
  • The run includes unusual corners or changes in direction
  • Pieces need checking or adjusting during fitting
  • The surrounding paving has already been laid
  • The finished setting out differs from the original drawing
  • The project is working to a fixed installation schedule

Our on-site service is available across the North West and wider UK. We can provide templating, cutting and bullnosing individually or manage the complete process through to the final fit.

Success stories

Steps they would put their name to.

★★★★★

Contacted Dan with an enquiry regarding some porcelain steps I wanted cutting and bullnose shaped. The finish was more than I expected. Unbelievably skilled stone mason, ultra professional and easy to communicate with throughout.

Questions

Before you send the drawings.

What types of steps can you fabricate?

We fabricate porcelain and natural stone step treads, risers, step copings, mitred and bonded pieces, downstands, corners and returns. Send us the project details if you are unsure whether the required design is possible.

Can porcelain steps be bullnosed?

Yes. Porcelain step edges can be given a full bullnose, aris or chamfer profile. Our in-house bullnose machine can produce a full bullnose up to 50mm thickness, with thicker materials available by special order.

Can you make mitred porcelain steps?

Yes. We cut, mitre and bond porcelain step pieces, including treads, risers, returns and downstands up to 150mm.

What is the difference between a bullnosed and mitred step?

A bullnosed step has a rounded leading edge formed from the material itself. A mitred step uses two angled and bonded pieces to create a sharper edge and the appearance of greater depth.

The best option depends on the material, setting out and appearance required.

Do you work with natural stone as well as porcelain?

Yes. We cut and profile both porcelain and natural stone across a range of thicknesses. Send us the material specification or photographs so we can confirm the appropriate cutting and edge finish.

Can you template the steps at my property or project?

Yes. Our on-site templating and fabrication service is available across the North West and wider UK. We can template the completed structure before cutting and finishing the individual pieces.

Can the steps be made at your workshop?

Yes. Where accurate drawings, dimensions or templates can be supplied, the pieces can be fabricated at our workshop in Acton Bridge, Cheshire, and made ready for installation.

Do you install the completed step pieces?

For suitable on-site projects, the completed pieces can be checked and set in place as part of the fabrication process. Send us the project details so we can confirm the appropriate scope.

What do you need to provide a quote?

Send us:

  • Photographs of the steps and surrounding area
  • Drawings, dimensions or templates if available
  • The number of steps
  • Material details and thickness
  • Your preferred edge profile
  • The project location
  • Your required timescale

If some of this information is not yet available, send what you have and we will explain what is needed next.

How far do you travel?

Our workshop is based in Acton Bridge, Cheshire. On-site templating, cutting and bullnosing are available across the North West and wider UK.

Every tread. Every riser. One clean finish.

Send us your photographs, drawings or dimensions and we will come back with the best way to fabricate the steps.
